  • Newspaper references
    • CROFTHEAD. 10th of March, 1863 was great day at Crofthead, and one long to be remembered, are we are sort of primitive people here—a kind of bushmen in fact, in way. London, Glasgow, and Edinburgh may be much more popular places than this. but l am sure they are not more loyal; judging from the number of great demonstrations which took place, and the gigantic proportions which they assumed. First of all the Company men had a treat from their employers, through the kind exertions W. I. Muir. Esq., the latter had a large bonfire on Falahill, which showed its reflections over a great distance; then the employees of the Oil Works (A. M. Fell & Co.) had a splendid supper and ball over their works; the employees of G. Gray, Esq., Leavenseat Lime-works, had also a supper and ball, they had also a large bonfire Leavenseat hill, which burned with great grandeur.
