Old pictures of Blackburn
BLACKBURN is a small village, on the river Almond and the road from Bathgate to West Calder, in the parishes of Livingstone and Whitburn, and is 1.5 miles east from East Whitburn station on the Morningside section of the North British system, and 3 south from Bathgate. Adjacent to the village are leck stone quarries, the stone from which is specially used in the construction of ovens, being capable of bearing any amount of heat, but it is unsuitable for building purposes. There are also works for the manufacture of millboard. The population in 1901 was 879.
