Burnbrae pits
Mineral statistics make mention to the working of coal and ironstone at Burnbrae, in the parish of Kilbarchan.
- Listed as worked for ironstone by W.S. Dixon & Co (Thomas Strachan, manager) in 1885
- Abandonment plan for coal and ironstone working at Burnbrae (1885)
- Abandonment plan for ironstone working at Burnbrae - Linwood (1886)
- Abandonment plan for ironstone working at Burnbrae No.1 & No.2 (1886)
The first edition OS map c.1857 shows a number of ironstone pits in the vicinity of Burnbrae house,(55.844255, -4.484687), however none of these are named "Burnbrae" and there is little evidence on the second edition OS map c.1895 to suggest large scale ironstone mining in that area.
