Mineral railway to Addiewell
Return to the Burnhouse to Westwood path
In the late 1860's, Young's Paraffin Light and Mineral Oil began construction of a network of mineral railways linking their pits at Westwood, Polbeth and Limefield with their Addiewell oil works. Land renewal works have obliterated most traces of the route other than this long embankment pierced by the abutment of a bridge over the Drove Loan. Trains passes this way until closure of the Westwood oil works in 1962.
