code: LVSAV2014.057
Description
Wooden box stencilled with 'Young's Coy Addiewell', hinged lid, circa 1940. From Young's Paraffin Light and Mineral Oil Company Limited, Addiewell.
Thought to perhaps have been used in the laboratory as it was originally partitioned inside - could have once held calibration weights to precisely calibrate scales within the laboratory. Originally belonged to Jock Dick, neighbour of the donor, who worked at Addiewell Chemical Works. Jock Dick worked at Addiewell all of his life until the works closed, as that point he was a watchman, original occupation unknown. The box was subsequently used as a tool box.
