The share capital of the five public companies (Broxburn, Dalmeny, Oakbank, Young's, Pumpherston) and one private company (Ross) involved in the shale oil industry were bought by Scottish Oils Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Anglo-Iranian Oil company, in 1922. The individual companies remained active as operating subsidiaries of Scottish Oils and issued annual balance sheets. These balance sheets are typical of the period.
