A limited company formed to take forward the business of the West Calder Oil Co. and including the remaining partners; Thomas Dunlop Findlay and Lewis Thorpe Merrow, on the board of directors.

The new company oversaw considerable investment in the works, the development of a refinery, and the appointment of a network of sales agents. Redwood later remarked that entry in the refined products market at a time of falling oil prices was the downfall of a previously prosperous crude oil producer.

Mineral interests at Cobbinshaw (perhaps associated with director and local landowner S.S. Robertson?) seem never to have been exploited by the company, although a portion were sublet to the South Cobbinshaw Oil Co.

The company collapsed in 1878 and was finally wound-up in 1883.

THE WEST CALDER OIL COMPANY, LIMITED. - NOTICE is hereby given that at an Extraordinary General Meeting of the Shareholders of this Company, duly convened and held within the Religious Institution Rooms, 172 Buchanan Street, Glasgow, on the 22d day of March 1878, the following Special Resolution, passed at an Extraordinary General Meeting of the Company, held on the 5th day of March current, was duly confirmed and passed :— The Meeting resolved, and hereby resolve, upon a voluntary Liquidation of the affairs of the West Calder Oil Company (Limited), and accordingly hereby require the Company to be wound up voluntarily. At the same Meeting the following Resolution was adopted :— That the Meeting proceed to appoint Joint Liquidators, and do hereby appoint Mr. John Gourlay, Chartered Accountant in Glasgow, and Mr. Samuel Findlater, the Secretary of the Company, to be Joint Liquidators of the Company, with all statutory powers, and that the remuneration to be paid to such Liqidators shall be fixed and allocated by a Committee consisting of Messrs. R. T. Middleton, William Scott, and G. W. Clark, who are hereby appointed for the purpose. M'CLURE, NAISMITH, BRODIE, & MACFARLANE, Agents. Glasgow, 25th March 1878.
