Sir John Traill Cargill, Bt., (1867-1954)

Sir John Traill Cargill was born into the oil industry, his father having founded the Burmah Oil Company. After working for his father's company in Rangoon he returned to Scotland and, in 1904, succeeded his father as chairman of the company. He served on the boards of the big five Scottish shale oil companies, after their amalgamation, in 1918, into the Scottish Oils Agency Ltd.
