Slater's trade directory of 1868 lists Welsh Coal & Mineral Oil Co. Ltd., Oak Pits Colliery, Mold under "Mineral Oil Manufacturers". No other evidence of oil production has yet been found.
The first edition (1871) OS map shows the pithead buildings of Oak Pits colliery, and a kiln, probably associated with brick production. Other unlabeled structures might represent oil retorts.
