Farmer's Actions against an Oil Company

Actions were recently raised in the Linlithgow Sheriff Court by Alexander and John Mitchell, farmers, Standhill and Little Boghead, Bathgate, against Young's Oil Company, Limited, for compensation for damage alleged to have been done to growing crops and garden produce by fumes and noxious vapours emitting from the vitriol chambers of Bathgate Chemical Works. In the case of Alexander Mitchell, Sheriff Melville has awarded £50 damages and expenses, and in the action by John Mitchell £25 and costs. Against this judgement the defenders have intimated appeal to Sheriff-Principal Rutherford.
