Calder Oil Co.

Constitution Copartnership
Date of Formation Prior to 1863
Date of Dissolution Partnership dissolved on 17th April 1866
Office 72 Great Clyde Street, Glasgow
Oil Works Broxburn Buchan Oil Works, Palacecraig Oil Works

A collaboration between two established Glasgow firms of manufacturing chemists; both of the partners of James Greenshields & Son, and John Edgar Poynter of John Poynter & Son. The enterprise seems to have met with little success and the Greenshields withdrew from the company in 1866, turning their attention to the development of East Fulton Shale Oil Works

The Calder Oil Company title seems to have been used initially for John Edgar Poynter's Buchan Oil Works in Broxburn,

The company was listed inthe Glasgow Post Office directory between 1864 and 1867 as "Calder Oil Co., paraffin mineral oil distillers, Palace Craig, near Airdrie; office, 72 Great Clyde street", and in Slater's royal national commercial drector of 1867 as: "Calder Oil Company, Faskyn - Jas Greenshields, managing partner"
