Background

Known only from the abandonment plan, the location and owner of this working in not currently known. It is possible that it was associated with Buckside (Pumpherston) Shale Works, or with an early oil works in the Roman Camp / Drumshoreland area (see Cawburn Shale Oil Works)

The Pumpherston Oil Company Ltd are known to have quarried oil shale at "Pumpherston Open-cast", between 1888 and 1898.
