Burnbrae ironstone & coal pits

Background

Mineral statistics make mention to the working of coal and ironstone at Burnbrae, in the parish of Kilbarchan

The first edition OS map c.1857 shows a number of ironstone pits in the vicinity of Burnbrae house,(55.844255, -4.484687), however none of these are named "Burnbrae" and there is little evidence on the second edition OS map c.1895 to suggest large scale ironstone mining in that area.
